How the 911 Turbo S engine works

Six horizontally opposed cylinders and two variable-geometry turbochargers make 650 PS. Start it up, slow it down, cut it open and follow the air from the intake to the tailpipes.

In September 2025 Porsche revealed the 992.2 Turbo S: a 3.6-litre T-Hybrid with electric exhaust turbochargers and 711 PS combined. This lab models the 992.1 and its twin-VTG 3.8.

Published figures from Porsche press material for the 992.1 Turbo S. Boost, temperatures, turbo speed, valve timing and rod length in the simulation are informed estimates. The 3D model is a procedural approximation, not a CAD reproduction.

Every part here is generated in code with Three.js: 24 valves, four camshafts, six pistons on a 120° crank and two VTG turbos with moving guide vanes. A small physics model drives rpm, boost, temperatures and the launch run. The engine sound is synthesised live with the Web Audio API from the flat-six firing pattern, so there are no recordings.
